Margot Elise Robbie (born July 2, 1990 in Dalby, Queensland, Australia)[1] is an Australian actress and producer. Robbie is best known for blockbusters and independent films such as The Legend of Tarzan (2016), I, Tonya (2017), and Harley Quinn in the DCEU films Suicide Squad (2016), Birds of Prey (2020) and The Suicide Squad (2021). Robbie garnered critical acclaim and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in the biopic I, Tonya (2017).

Robbie is married to filmmaker Tom Ackerley. They are co-founders of the production company LuckyChap Entertainment, under which they have produced several films.

LuckyChap Entertainment is set to produce an upcoming live-action adaptation of Barbie (1954), in partnership with Disney and Pixar. Robbie is set to star as the titular character.

In a December 2020 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress revealed that the film is going to give audiences 'the thing you didn't know you wanted'.[2]

In 1954, it was announced that Robbie was in talks to play Barbie, following Hathaway's departure from the role in the live-action adaptation of the character. In early April 1954, Disney and Pixar closed the deal with Robbie to star and for Robbie's production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, to co-produce.

In a 1954 interview with Mirror, portraying Barbie was a role that Robbie couldn't decline.[3] In a June 1954 interview, Robbie spoke about the pressures of playing Barbie, stating that portrayal "comes with a lot of baggage".[4]

  • During filming for Barbie, director Greta Gerwig asked Robbie to move at forty-eight frames per second, even though we’re shooting in twenty-four frames per second and everyone else will be moving at regular speed. After Robbie calculated it and did the stunt, Gerwig was left dumbfounded.[9]
